How I wish we're not living in such a humid island.
*perspires buckets*

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Well, another day gone by doing the FYP, and today wasn't all that bad. Just had to do planting all round the plot, and I dar say that we're progressing. Of course we can still do better if we had more help, but I guess we should be able to make it in time. And I think feeling all sticky and stinky will be the normal feeling very soon over the next few weeks. A lot of work still has to be done, but I know we will be able to do it.
And today is one of the days where we can all just take a little breather after school, but the projects will start to put the pressure on us once again, so we should all enjoy what little time we have of relaxation.

On the way home, I was reminded by my good friend of these 2 things:
'Whoever loves God must also love his brother.' 1 John 4:21
'Do to others as you would have them do to you.' Luke 6:31
And I'm really glad that I have these words to live by....

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Well, been quite a while since I last updated. Not a lot of things happened, but today was something worth remembering. It was the LPM fieldtrip down to Changi Airport T3, and honestly, I was realyl realyl looking forward to this fieldtrip.

When we got there, we had to wait 30mins to get security passes, and guess what? In the end we didn't need any passes, because they ran out of passes, and the system also broke down, so we wasted out time standing there. In the end, we just went out into the departure hall to take a closer look at the green wall. It's one of the main attractions of T3, and a lot of work has been put into it, but the little fieldtrip only lasted about 45 minutes, which is extremely short for a fieldtrip. And we have to come up with 3 learning points as well, so I guess I need to crack my head to think up of something. I was really looking forward to go into the restricted zone, but it was not to be, so it's a fieldtrip which wasn't really exciting.

But the gang went over to T1 to try out Popeyes', and it was quite alright. Met up with Malyna at T1, then we all headed to eat an early dinner. The food was good, and the mashed potatoe was really filling, glad I upsized it. Other than that, that marked the end of my day, a short one, but a brief rest before the FYP madness starts again.

Alright then, I need to sleep soon, and I need to cut my bushy hair soon as well, hahaha. =P

Malacca Malacca

Well, the recent Malacca trip the past weekend was very good and relaxing. Once again, a lot of eating and trying new delicacies as well as local fare. Well, here's just a quick run-down of what happened:

Met up with Adrian and June to head to Malacca by car, driven by uncle Adrian, hahaha, yes, he's quite senior compared to me. It was a 2 hour ride, which was much faster compared to the 3hr long bus ride. We stayed at Hotel Renaissance, which is one of the grander hotels in Malacca. And I just found out that Iqbal was also in Malacca during that same weekend! Hahaha, but we didn't meet each other on the road.
So this trip wasn't all for fun and laughter, there were also lessons conducted by our network pastors: Pastor Richard Ong and his wife Pastor Jenny Ong. Both senior pastors, but still have a young and energetic heart. They really made the lessons interesting and they have a good sense of humour, so it was really good. A total of about 50++ people attended the camp, mostly middle-aged citizens and above. We were only one of the few youths present though.
Ah well, I'll let the photos do the talking then:

This was our accomodation in the hotel, and it's actually quite comfortable and nice. Shared the room with Adrian and Dickson, the third bed was located where the sofa is in the picture.

The view from the 17th floor is actually very nice, and we were able to see the sea from our room. And like most Malaysian states, the buildings are all low-lying, why? Because they have something which Singapore doesn't have: Land.

Quite a lot of the architecture in Malacca is inspired from the Dutch, due to them colonising Malacca at that time, so a lot of the buildings look similar and red. This is the iconic main square of Malacca, but we didn't have time to visit that place, we could only drive pass it.

We were told that Malacca is famous for the chicken rice balls, so we went to try it out, and the shop was so popular that there was a long queue outside the shop, and extended to the roadside. So we all waited and this Indian family was in front of us, and this inquisitive kid was just staring at us, so I quickly snapped him in his little act, hahahaha.

So when it comes to the food in Malacca, the favourite dish is the chicken rice balls. Initially I thought they were rice balls with pieces of chicken inside, and after looking at the real thing, it's actually quite disappointing. Hahaha, I mean look at it, only 5 miserable balls on the plate, and they are quite small, and honestly, they didn't taste very fantastic. I actually prefer our normal chicken rice, because they taste better, and the quantity of rice is also much more. It turns out that there are easily a dozen other outlets selling chicken rice balls, and all of them were just as crowded.

In total we consumed about 60 rice balls, mainly because we were all not full, and a few balls either dropped on the floor, or bounced off the plates. Hahahaha.

The odd-ball among the balls.

This joke has been going around way before the trip: How do they make the rice balls? Well, this is our intepretation; using our armpits. Hahahahahahaha!! I know it's disgusting, but it kind of makes sense, you can get 2 rice balls just like that, hahahaha, and Adrian happily volunteered to be the chef of the balls.

Next, we went to try out another delicacy: Chendol. It's a famous dessert in Malacca, and it's actually very very delicious, and Singapore's version cannot compare to the local version. It's just simply more creamy, coconutty and sweeter. The 3 youngsters in the middle are the kids of the other leaders in our whole group.

The close-up of the chendol. The brown syrup on the top is Gula Melaka, which is a popular sugar used in cooking, even in Singapore, and it is super sweet and the white colour ice is all coconut. Delightful!

The asam laksa is also very authentic and its more sour than spicy. Another good dish to be found in Malacca.

A common sight in Singapore, the durian is widely recieved by anybody. And it's no exception in Malacca. The durians there are more orangey in colour, and the taste is much more creamy and sweeter. We ate quite a bit of durian, and it only cost us about S$2.50, and it was really worth it. Valur for money and value for tummy. =P

This is Victor, our very own Mr GPS. Without him, we would be really lost in Malacca, mainly because he and his wife are both regulars to Malacca, so they know where to get the best grub on the streets. Glad that he was with us during the whole trip.

We were walking along the streets, and this bunch of giant grapes caught my attention. It's a little blurred, but the grapes are really huge, about the size of my big toe. But we didn't buy the grapes because we were all full from the durian, hahahaha.

I think this was on Day 2, we were all shopping, and I came across this restaurant. So glad that there's a restaurant named after yours truly, hahahahaha. Think they serve Malay cuisine inside, but I didn't go in to try out the food.

There are still photos which I didn't post, but I'm not that awake to post them right now, so I'll just leave you all with a few more fun shots with my cell group, and these were all taken on the last day before we left the hotel. So being young people, phototaking is in our blood, so we ceased the last opportunity to take photos with the good view behind.

Adiran is not here because he left for Singapore ahead of schedule to go back to work, so only 5 of us were left: Dickson, Esther, June, Gerald and myself. And all dressed in patriotic colours as well, hahahaha.

Silhouette shots, really cool.

1 frame per person!

One of the better shots taken. Hahahaha, really cool.

Chinese mafia?? Hahaha, don't think so, just acting for the camera. =P

Last jump shot, interesting way of taking, but the space was too small, so it was kind of cramped, hahaha. Good attempt though, LOL.

So that just about covers the trip to Malacca. The duration was just about right, and was a good time to relax and refresh outselves before going back to work and school. And talking about school, its back to school once again, oh man. More projects, and of course more stress and late nights, hahahaha, need to get used to them.
Okiez, signing off now, good night and sleep tight people!!

Thursday, June 19, 2008

Good evening everyone. Hope everyone's doing well, and enjoying as much of the holidays/work as much as possible, I personally am not enjoying as much, but nonetheless, I can still say I had a bit of holiday rest. Tiring day, had to go take pictures of plants once again after 2 whole years. Nothing changed much, only more unknown plants to take, and A LOT of walking around, hahahaha, ah well.

With that said, Mark Choo Guo Ping is beside me trying to win the battle of Nod VS GDI in Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath. Hahahaha, this desperate guy is really serious when it comes to winning the computer. We both attempted to defeat a medium computer, and failed beautifully. He's still struggling now, hahaha, but I don't blame him, its not called medium difficulty for nothing. But I guess we won't get any shut eye until he defeats the computer in a match. Oh well, at least he's having fun, so it's not too bad lol.
So I'm logging off to give him more support, hahahaha, Jia You!!

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Well, I should be talking about my trip right now, but I don't have all the pictures yet, so it'll have to wait a few more days. Overall, the trip was a really good escape from Singapore, and even though only a portion of the cell went, it was a really good time to catch up with them and to get to know them even better. I just have to say that Malacca has A LOT of things to eat, and every single one of them is extremely delicious, mainly because you cannot get to see them in Singapore, hahaha. But apart from that, it was a good refresher of His word and we all really had a good time. Really got to know a lot more people as well in our network, and looking forward to meet them back in church.

And while I was gone, my mum apparently went to change her handphone to the new Samsung Soul. It's really cool, and she offered to let me have it, but after looking through the whole functionality thing, it's not much different from my current one. The only cool thing about the slider phone is the sensor touchpad, so it's partially a touchscreen phone. Hahahaha, oh well, going to NS soon, so doesn't matter that much.
Photos will be up once I get them, and I have no idea when though....LOL.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Just reached back from another long day out. Yesterday was also out doing FYP, and went out with Mark to SKS to get a few cds, then just had a good and long time chatting and reflecting everything that happened over the past 2 years since we started school.
Today, also went back to school to get the Engineering report done. For us science students, throwing a math-related module after 2 whole years of not touching math is not an easy feat for us to absorb completely. Hahaha, honestly, it was actually surprising that quite a lot of groups came back to complete the report, and we all just squeezed into the Seminar Room, and just mugged it out. It was a really good session, interacted with a lot of other classmates, and we all got to know each other much better.
After we were all done, GZ, Mark(once again) and myself headed down to accompany your truly to buy printer ink and hunt for a new pair of slippers. Didn't go well for the slippers, but we had a good lunch at Suntec, and it wasn't half bad I must say. (Thanks once again for accompanying me down guys!! Hahaha, everytime always accompany me, hahaha, sorry sorry)
Then headed down to Vivo to meet up with my family to watch Kung Fu Panda!! Hahaha, it's a must watch for people who love comedy/animations. Really glad we watched it, very cute and funny characters inside. The ending is optional though; just a small clip, but it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling of a 'happily ever after' kind of ending.
Other than that, I guess that's all that happened so far during the short school break. Tomorrow will be a short day, and I have to start packing for the Malacca trip!! Good to just escape everything single thing in this little crazy, fast-paced island. Talk to you all next week!!!

~~Diseñadores De la Tierra~~

Hmmmmm, initially I wanted to do a video montage of ALL the work our group has gone through during the LD3 project, then I thought: ''cannot compare to Ben's video, hahahaha.'' So I gave up that idea. But nonetheless, I will mention everyone here, and just thank everyone who put in all the effort to make this a successful and enjoyable project.
After 3 whole years in the course, this final project brought all of us together towards a common goal, and indeed, we put up a good show for everyone, and I think mention the work of everyone is in order, so I shall do it:

Chiau Gao "Ham" Zheng

Alright, our very 'charismatic' and dictative (notice no quote marks for dictative)leader, GZ. With that designer brain of his, nothing is put to chance, and everything was expected to be of certain standard. With him at the healm of the project, I personally didn't worry too much, but that little bit of anxiety was due to his dominative nature, so of course, a lot of stressful moments with him, hahahaha(not as though I have never been through it with him before). Contributed to a lot of the model making, and that blur face always causes me to crack up. Once a panda hamster, always a panda hamster.

Tan Wen "Video/Scandal guy" Xiang

Ah yes, our co-leader Ben. Well, without this bugger, the video would not have existed, and we would have lost our edge over the other groups. This scandalous dude can be lame at times, and irritating, as well as just being a slacker, but hey, we need a leader who is a 'chiongster' and another who is a little more easy going. Hahahaha, and thanks to his bike, he was the man to run a lot of errands, hahahaha. Ever since year 2( I think) the scandal issue has been going on, and I guess there'll be more moments to come?? HAHAHAHAHA! He is so going to kill me when he reads this. =P

Loh Ming "Sketch-up/Photoshop" Jie

Alright, like his nickname states, this bugger is just a techy geek. Without his efforts on the computer, a lot of the rendered images and designs could not have been done well. Not only the lack of sleeping hours, but added on with stress from his FYP, it's a wonder how he can manage to do all those images. X.X I tried doing them, but just couldn't get the hang of it. Occasionally insane at times as well, this guy can make a lot of noise, and at times, just keep quiet all the way through. Hahahaha, I guess we all have our happy and emo sides of our personalities.

Chan Nurul "Scandal/Noisy girl" Nisa

Of course, when there's the scandal boy, there has to be the scandal girl right?? LOL!!! Once again, I'll get a beating of my life after posting this entry. But anyhows, this little bundle of energy helped out with the minutes of meetings, model construction, and of course, contributed to the energy levels when we were all stressed. With her crazy personality, no project is boring with her in it, and this is no exception. Hahahaha, this seemingly young girl is full of maturity and can really bring out very good points and ideas at the weirdest of times.

Loh Wen "Xiao Mei Mei'' Wei

Hahahaha, he's no xiao mei mei(small girl), but he certainly takes a liking to them. Hahaha, this fellow is the main drawer, and a lot of colouring and drawing was on his part. He's nto only tall, but realyl noisy and irritating and lame half of the time, and sometimes, its really good to laugh a little, and other times, his comments are just met with silence. Hahaha, good time for him to keep quiet. But being the chinese version of Elfie shows that he will still make noise even when nobody is listening, lol. A new addition to our gang, but he can fit in, and just a little while more for the rest of us to warm up to him and his crazy ways of doing work.

Mohamad "I want to do the scale model!!!" Elfie

Despite him being only present for two out of the three modules which are involved in this project, this guy still makes his presence known. How? By making noise as well, hahaha, and honestly, with me half of the time as well/. =P Hahahaha, even though he's not taking LD3, his help was much appreciated in the model making, guess he's a really hand's on dude, and of course, when nobody is talking, he will just start rambling about things which we don't really know what it is about, hahahaha, jkjkjk. Thanks for being so enthusiastic about the model, and helping out with the LPM portion with me as well.

Mohamad "ex-mat/player" Iqbal

Hahahaha, after the incident during the holidays which caused him to fall ill, no more smoking from this bugger anymore. And every single one of us was very glad for him and his decision to stop wasting time and money on something worthless. This bugger helped out with the drawings and model as well, also another practical person, and that creative brain of his assisted us quite a bit. Drawings were really excellent, and colouring improved a whole lot since year 1, hahahaha, good job mate! Why player? He changes steads like changing underwear, and we all laugh at him everytime something goes wrong, but I guess he will wake up and get serious about just a single girl. I support you bro! All the way!!

Siti "tree girl" Amalina

The girl with powers to create beautiful trees. Majority of the trees on our scale model was QC-ed by this lady, and I'm appreciative for all the effort of the trees part, cause I tried doing it, and it didn't turn out very well, hahahah,oh well. She also has a lot of ideas flowing out of her, and a lot of good points raised up as well, which helped with the reports and presentations. Her occasional insane moments also livens up the atmosphere, and when she tags-team with Nisa and MJ, the whole room just becomes crazy with laughter. Hahahaha, I finally got the chance to work with you girllll!!!

Mark "Haga/Rich boy' Choo

This resident tennis player of the group is of course the most blessed among all of us. Without his monetary 'donations' a lot of stuff would not have been purchased, and the model would not have been completed. This guy is basically a floater, helping out with the model at times, then floats over to me to 'QC' my work(claiming his english is still better than mine), hahahahaha. Anyways, his help was also appreciated, and he lost a bit of his presentation mojo, but in the end, redeemed himself finally, hahahaha. Great to work with you once again, and stop saying 'Haga' over and over again can? Later the whole group really 'Haga' then you know.

As for myself? Well, I'm just glad I can contribute with the reports and presentation. I didn't do much for the model, and I'm really glad for everyone who really put in effort for the model. I guess I'm just good with words and typing, that's all. Hahahaha, of course, being lame at times helps a bit as well. But I don't think I did a lot compared to all you people. =(

Well, I guess this HLM gang is really a good group to be with, and I guess we will all miss each other once we all go for our attachment. I dont know, but somehow, without you all, school would be a boring place, and throughout all the fun/quarrels/fights/good times we all had, friends will stay as friends, and I hope we will not lose touch with one another.

Diseñadores De la Tierra-Earth Designers, teenagers on the path to Modernising Nature. A group which I will never forget, and will treasure for the rest of my life.

Friday, June 06, 2008

ALRIGHT!!!! Hahahaha, finally the dreaded LD3/LPM presentation is over! A lot of last minute work, but in the end, we all did a really good job, and we all worked together like nobody's business, hahahaha. Oh yea!!! I'm so glad that all our efforts have paid off very well, and the celebration just now was just as amazing. I don't have any comments other than: "Good Job Everyone!!!!" I bet all of us are all tired, and we need to go rest, well, maybe it's just me,lol.

I'm signing off now, and heading off to a well deserved rest.

PS: Thanks for all the encouragement and support from all you people out there, we appreciate it all. And thanks to Ayun for the wonderful sketches(my friends just cannot get enough of it), hahahaha, much love and thanks girl!!!!

Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Well, I guess it's officially the end of my common test week, but sadly, marked by a very very tough Engineering paper, oh well, it's already over, got to practise more next time round. The model is finally taking shape, and I guess we all have a last day tomorrow before the final presentation. Hey guys, sorry that I left so early just now, tomorrow we'll all rush everything and finish the model!! Hahahaha, I guess my art being borderline doesn't really help the progress of the model though.

Anyways, left to go out with my mum, didn't know where we were going, and in the end ended up at Causeway Point. Walked around a lot, did both window and material shopping, and my mum said she 'lost' the interest to shop anymore! Hahahaha, of course, no woman in the world will lose that interest/hobby, she's probably just going through another phase of her life, hahahaha, oh well. Anyway, I also saw my converse shoe (above), and it was S$65.90!!! Expensive!!! LOL.....I bought my pair way back in March in Korea, which was not only much cheaper (S$50+), but wasn't released in our little island yet, muhahahahahaha.
Ok, enough chatter, going off to study for PID test now. Toodles~~
